MCS’ Steven Kennedy Among First Board-Certified in Texas Construction Law

It’s not hard to see why the Texas Board of Legal Specialization decided to create a new area of specialty for lawyers practicing construction law in Texas. The booming construction sector’s steady  growth and the increasing complexity of construction-related transactions and litigation made it a natural choice to designate lawyers with special expertise in this area.

McGuire, Craddock & Strother is proud to announce that shareholder Steven Kennedy is among the inaugural class of lawyers in the state to successfully complete the board’s rigorous Construction Law certification process.

With the addition of Construction Law, the TBLS recognizes board-certified specialists in 22 areas of law. The board was established in 1974 by the Supreme Court of Texas at the request of the State Bar of Texas and is the only governing board authorized to certify Texas practitioners in specialty areas. More than 70,000 attorneys are licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, but only 7,000 have successfully earned board certification. Texas is only the second state, after Florida, to offer a board certification for construction lawyers.

The leader of McGuire, Craddock & Strother’s Construction Law and Litigation sections, Steve is widely respected for his expertise and ability to guide clients through transactions, contract negotiations and litigation. Holding a degree in architecture as well as a law degree, Steve has served in leadership positions and has co-authored two of the leading books on Texas mechanic’s and materialman’s lien law.
