STEVEN H. THOMAS

Biography

Steve has extensive experience representing commercial entities and business professionals as plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial disputes in state and federal courts. His cases have included compliance matters under federal telecommunications laws, multi-party and multi-jurisdictional contract and business tort controversies, securities and antitrust litigation, financial institution director and officer liability, employment law claims, and other commercial issues. He also has served as outside general counsel for telecommunications and manufacturing firms.

  • National telecommunications enhanced services provider in multiple suits against SBC, AT&T, Global Crossing and Broadwing resulting in multiple recoveries plus judgment establishing client's status as an enhanced services provider under the telecom laws.

  • Wireless communications carrier in federal court lawsuit against SBC.

  • Commercial developer in suit against publicly traded homebuilder relating to dispute over $20M in properties.

  • Compliance software developer in infringement suit against competitor.

  • Developer of laboratory management software in suit against competitor.

  • Publisher of Hispanic periodicals in commercial defamation suit against rival publishers.

  • Commercial feed lot operator in suit brought by cattle owner/investor.

  • Equity Committee of the bankruptcy estate of a publicly traded technology firm in $25M securities fraud suit involving state and federal cases in California, Texas, New York and Delaware.

  • Golf course construction firm in $7M suit by Owner alleging breach of contract and fraud.

  • Regional bank in $600K suit involving another financial institution, a steel contractor and New York factoring company relating to negotiation of fraudulent endorsements; and in $500K suit against Missouri-based processor for loss or destruction of negotiable instruments.

  • Golf retailer in suit against investment advisor for breach of contract and fraud.

  • Publicly traded health care company in multiple suits for collection of more than $3M in accounts receivable.

  • Publicly traded REIT in $35M negligence suit against TXU Electric and DART for damages to the 50-story downtown Dallas office complex during construction of DART rail line.

  • Hong Kong manufacturer in $7M contract suit on international distribution contract.

  • Internet service provider in $4M securities suit between company and two major shareholders.

  • Wuhan Airlines (of Wuhan, China) in $20M fraud suit relating to lease of Boeing 747.

  • Eastman Kodak Company in $12M contract and tortuous interference suit with a regional distributor.

  • The Dee Howard Co. and its parent, AirItalia, in $75M contract and fraud suit brought by estate of a deceased Arabian sheik and a British businessman arising from contract to modify commercial jet into private jet.

  • Former director of Charles Schreiner Bank in $9M suit by FDIC for alleged improper lending practices.

  • Former director and officer of Victoria Savings Association in $3M suit by RTC for alleged improper lending practices.

  • Quantum Fund in commodities fraud suit against Shearson Lehman Bros.

  • Union Carbide in antitrust suit involving the company's worldwide hydrocracking operations.
